Spring into Action with OPAL

The Craft Group re-started on 20th April and further sessions are planned 1.30-3.3Opm on Friday afternoons 4th & 18th May, and 1st & 15th June at the OPAL Office. This friendly group is led by instructor Sandra who will explain different Craft techniques. To find out more about the group, speak to Margot Broadley or phone the OPAL Office.

The Keep Fit Group continues on Wednesday mornings, starting at 11am at the Stables, Rita Savage writes ‘I do enjoy going to this group where Camilla leads us through an hour of activity.  We wear non-slip shoes & trousers and tops. Members can sit out some exercises and join in when they feel able to do so. We start with chair-based exercises, followed by 20 minutes of movement to music.’

The next OPAL coach trip is on Monday 28th May to Harlow Carr RHS Garden,Harrogate, 11am-4pm. Some of us plan to take a picnic lunch and explore this 58 acre garden and view the changes including the new Alpine House and Rose Revolution Borders. Harlow Carr has the UK’s longest streamside garden, plus woodland, wildflower meadows and kitchen gardens. The OPAL trip on the 20th June is to Windermere.

The Men’s Group are off to Cannon Hall Farm 10.30am- 3pm on Monday 14th May for a visit and lunch. This is a lovely Country House, park, museum, gardens and farm – for a May day out in Cawthorne, Barnsley.

The Theatre Group have 2 visits planned to W Yorkshire Playhouse on 19th May ‘The Real Thing’ and on 26th May ‘Napoli’.

The Creative Writing Group is a community group meeting in Holt Park Library – anyone can come along and join us. We meet next on Monday 21st May 2pm- 3.30pm. The previous meeting was an interesting workshop with Leeds-based poet and playwright, Peter Spafford. We talked about Olympic Truce, and Peter encouraged us to write a short poem and enter it in the Leeds Peace Poetry Competition 2012. We do appreciate having the library open and activities arranged.

The Coffee Afternoons are on Fridays 1.3Opm-3.30pm at The Hub, 10 Silk Mill Drive, LS16 6DX. If you would like more details of any of the above activities, call the OPAL Office 0113 261 9103.
