Leeds Community Star Awards

Council tenants and residents in Leeds are being invited to enter Leeds Community Stars Awards celebrating the hard work of individuals and successful projects in their communities. Open to 150,000 Leeds council tenants and residents the awards will be recognised on a city wide level. The awards will take place in July 2012 at a central Leeds venue. Enclosed in this newsletter is an application form. If you know of a person or project that you feel deserves recognition please fill in the form and follow the details. Below are the categories and overviews. The venue, host and entertainment will be announced shortly. Look out in our other newsletters for further information.

Categories

Resident of the Year
Recognising an individual who makes your community a better place to live. They might have done something outstanding to benefit for the community. They could have helped for many years or they might stand out for starting a new project.

Young Resident of the Year (under 21)
This category recognises a young person who has made a positive impact in their neighbourhood and is a role model to others.

Resident Group of the Year 
Recognising a group of residents who together are having a positive impact to your community. The group can be large or small and it can be a formal group such as a Tenant’s and Residents Association, or an informal group who have worked together with a positive result.

Best Community Initiative
Celebrating an initiative or project undertaken in the last year which has engaged local residents in a positive way not only benefitting the local community, but also contributing to improving the area they live.

Most Innovative Project
The Most Innovative Project will demonstrate success at engaging with local residents in a positive way to bring about change or provide a positive service within the community. It may be a new initiative that has not been done before or a successful project that has been repeated.

Green Initiative
Celebrating an initiative or project that recognises the green agenda and contributes in some way to sustainability and improved environmental practices.

Jane Tomlinson Trust Special Recognition Award
The special recognition award will be voted for by the judges and will be selected from all the entries nominated.

Peoples Choice Award
The people’s choice award will be voted for by the public through the website from the finalist entries when announced.
