OPAL (Older People’s Action in the Locality) News for May & June Computer Sessions at home or at OPAL. If members need help mastering computers they can book a one-to-one session for an hour at home or you can come to OPAL Office (on Mon, Tues or Thursday afternoon) and use the computer or bring your own laptop with you. Sessions at the office cost £4. Sessions at home cost £8.
Every 2nd & 4th Thurs of the month, a Coffee Afternoon, Ireland Wood Meeting Point is to be held at St Paul’s Church Hall, Ireland Wood, LS16 6BS. This started in April and will meet on 9th & 23rd May, 2-4pm. All welcome-run by OPAL, St Paul’s Church & Weetwood Councillors in partnership for the community. Like the OPAL Friday Coffee Afternoons at Tinshill LS16 6DX and the Creative Writing Group at Holt Park Library (on the 3rd Monday of the month 2-3.30pm, 20th May) you do not need to be a member of OPAL to come along. Aimed at older people but all ages are welcome.
OPAL Men’s Group meet on the 1st Monday of the month. On 13th May, we are going to the Cavendish Pavilion on the river at Bolton Abbey 11am- 3.30pm.
On 3rd June we plan a lovely day out to Lotherton Hall to see the award-winning bird gardens, walk in the gardens and enjoy the café 11am-4pm.
A Friday trip to Helmsley on 17th May 9.45am-4.30pm cost £9. Visit the market, castle with walled garden and restored glasshouses, plant nursery & Vinery Café. Wed 22nd May, 1-4pm Lotherton Hall. Mon 3rd June, 1.30-4pm to Bolton Abbey. Wednesday 19th June 9.20am- 6pm, a trip to Bowness in Windermere. All trips depart and return to the Farrar Lane Car Park behind ASDA at HoltPark.
Fire Safety Project: Three OPAL volunteers, Clem, Geoffrey and Peter have been trained by West Yorkshire Fire Service to do fire safety checks in your home.
