OPAL ACTIVITIES (Older People’s Action in the Locality)

. . . .  OPAL ACTIVITIES  . . . .

OPAL was set up in Jan 2002 to reduce isolation and improve the quality of life for older people living in Leeds l6, and to help them to continue to live safely in their own homes. We now have over 700 members but only a small dedicated staff team, helped by over 90 volunteers. OPAL AGM was held on 12th July at Cookridge Methodist Church Hall on a very hot afternoon! The packed meeting started with refreshments and was followed by short reports, then entertainment by singer Terry Williams.

The OPAL Men’s Group enjoyed a trip to Eden Camp in July. On 5th Aug there is a visit to Wentworth Castle & gardens with a guided tour & lunch, and motorised scooters avail able to transport people around the gardens if needed. On Mon 2nd Sept there is a trip to Brodsworth Hall, South Yorkshire llam-4.3Opm.

The Tinshill Coffee Afternoons continue during August and September on Friday’s 1.30-3.3Opm at The Hub, Silk Mill Drive LS 6DX. The new Ireland Wood Coffee Afternoons are on the 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month, £1 entry, refreshments included. They are held at St Paul’s Church, L516 6BS.

The Intergenerational Choir meets during term time at Cookridge Primary School on Tues lunchtimes and Thursdays after school and will be starting again in September.

Creative Writing Group meets at 2pm in Holt Park Library on the 3rd Monday of the month, 19th Aug & 16th Sept. New people welcome, this is a community group, like the Coffee Afternoons and the Choir, —you do not have to be an OPAL member, just come along.
