The six OAPs, who have an average age of 75, pledged to get the job done themselves as Leeds City Council highways bosses say they do not have to carry out repairs as it is an ‘unadopted’ road.
The neighbours from Crawshaw Gardens in Pudsey bought a tonne of Tarmac and some black tar sealant to maintain holes on their access. Armed with a heavy duty concrete garden roller, shovels, rakes and brushes they set to work yesterday.
David Horn, 77, who is married to Barbara, said: “We decided enough is enough. There has been much discussion with Leeds City Council over the years and although it is an unadopted road, we feel they could help us out.
