Bodington Hall Plans Update

Further to previous post 6th February with regard to a public meeting about the proposals hosted by David Wilson Homes at Bodington Hall.

At the meeting we were informed that they plan to build 106 (3-4 bed-roomed houses) costing less than half a million.  This is to include 4 blocks of 3 affordable houses (12 houses).

We were also told that the green spaces at the top left hand side and the bottom right hand side of the plan will be retained by the University.

The main concerns were traffic congestion on Adel Lane.  David Wilson Homes mentioned that they are currently looking at the traffic issue with highways.

Adel Neighbourhood Forum Update

Published in Adel Bells Parish Magazine

Press Release – we are up and running with a bang

There were more than fireworks going off in Adel on 5th November. It also marked the inaugural meeting of the Adel Neighbourhood Forum. Nick Brown, Co-Chairman welcomed the 15 Members to the launch and said “The purpose of the Forum is to give a renewed sense of ownership to the Adel Community on land development issues; also to ensure that local people have a strong influence over the future use, location, character and mix of future developments”. He added that the vision would be to ensure a sustainable future for Adel. A key factor was to define a clear identity for the area which would be for the benefit of the inhabitants and would also foster a spirit of pride in the local community.

Amanda Schonfeld said that community involvement was vital and she outlined the consultation process with the main parties including residents, businesses, community organisations and developers. In addition there will be seven focus groups with specific sectors such as education and transport.

Sarah Rushton set out the technical issues involved including the National Planning Policy Framework and the Localism Act.  She said that there would be a close dialogue with Leeds City Planning Department and that a Neighbourhood Plan will be produced which will be the subject of a community referendum. She envisaged a time scale of 18-24 months.

Ian Bond, Co- Chairman said “The definition of the boundary for the Forum has now gone out to consultation by Leeds City Council. The next steps will be to agree the formal constitution, set up the focus groups and start the public consultation through a “Visioning Process” whereby individuals are given their opportunity to say how they see the structure of Adel in say 15-20 years time”. He thanked members for their contributions to date and said much work will need to be completed before the next Forum meeting on 4th February 2013.

Entrance leading to Adel Wood Gardens gets a New Handrail

Due to a number of complaints received from the local residents with regard to the steep inclined foot path from the entrance off Long Causeway leading to Adel Wood Gardens your Chair, Francis Garbutt of Adel Crag Association met on site with Cllr Barry Anderson and Christopher Tollick, Neighbourhood Estate Management Officer to discuss where best the handrail should be fitted to assist local residents during bad weather.

We wish to thank Cllr Barry Anderson and Wyn Davis, Area Performance Manager, Christopher Tollick, Neighbourhood Estate Management Officer that the handrail is now in place.

Adel Crag gets vintage community notice board

Thanks to a successful Area Panel bid Adel Crag Community Association (ACCA) secured a vintage community notice board for the communal grass area facing Sir George Martin Drive. The lovely notice board was sympathetically chosen so it would fit in with the natural beauty of Adel village.

After careful consideration Adel Crag Community Association decided it would be best for whole of the community to name the notice board ‘Adel Village’. The notice board provides information to residents and to the wider community who do not get to know what’s happening in the area as not all residents have access to the internet to view the Community Association’s website www.adelcrag.org.uk

Chair of ACCA Francis Garbutt said “We are pleased to have received so many positive comments from the residents and how impressed they are about the notice board which has proved to be a success for our local community. We aim to update the notice board weekly generally every Monday.”

Should anyone wish to display an article of events etc on our notice board please click Contact button above. To talk about area panel bids contact your Neighbourhood Management Officer.
