OPAL (Older People’s Action in the Locality) What’s On In June

OPAL will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee at Ralph Thoresby
School 3.45-5pm on Thurs 5th July, with entertainment by the pupils, tea and
cakes. OPAL is giving the school a scrapbook of memories of the Queen’s
reign.

On Friday 6th July, members meet up with the Lord Mayor of Leeds at Cookridge Methodist Church Hall 1.45- 4.30pm for OPAL’s 10th Birthday Celebration and AGM plus more cakes and entertainment by the Musical Theatre Group Memory Lane.  Continue reading

Launching the new Half-Fare MetroDay Ticket for Young People

The new Half-Fare MetroDay ticket for Young People
From Monday 21 May, a new Half-Fare MetroDay ticket will be introduced giving young people unlimited daily bus travel throughout West Yorkshire for just £2.60.

Youngsters aged 5-11 years, 11-16 year olds with a Metro Young Person’s Photocard and 16-18 year olds with a Metro Scholar’s PhotoCard will be able to buy a Half MetroDay ticket seven days a week from the driver on their bus.  Buy a Half-Fare MetroDay ticket for any bus*, anytime, anywhere in West Yorkshire.  *Find out more about Half-Fare MetroDay tickets. Friends of Lawnswood Cemetery Launch of Summer programme of walks

In October 2011, the Friends of Lawnswood Cemetery was formed, with the aim of protecting, improving and promoting this storehouse of memories for Leeds. The cemetery opened in 1875 and became Leeds’ premier burial (and later strewing) site. It contains monuments (some magnificent) to many who “made”Leeds– names such as Tetleys (brewing), Hepworth (tailoring – now Next), Kitson (engineering) and Moynihan (surgeon) to name but four. The Victorian section alone contains 12 Mayors & Lord Mayors (the title adopted in 1897), when wealth was essential (join the walk to find out why!). Continue reading

Adel Village Notice Board Update

Further to our previous post we are pleased to inform you that the Adel Village notice board is now planned to be erected on site Thursday 31st May.

Should there be any changes to this plan we will endeavour to let you know.
