Adel History Play: Workshop at Adel St John’s School, Adel

Adel History Play: Workshop at Adel St John’s School Adel Parish Boundary Walk passes the Quaker Meeting House. It is here that Social Reformer, Isabella Ford, used to come with her family. Isabella Ford is featured in Mick McCann’s book ‘How Leeds Changed the World’.

Year 5 pupils with Miss Dakin are researching Isabella Ford and other interesting characters from Adel’s history. They had a lively workshop afternoon in school with Pat Riley and Val Crompton, ending with dramatic presentations by the groups of their findings. Pupils will be taking part in the Adel History Play to be performed with members of Adel Players in Adel Church at 7.30pm on Fri 22 & Sat 23 June. For further details contact Val Crompton on 225 9142.

About Adel/ History

Adel Boundary Walk 13th May 2012

Adel Boundary Walk The ancient tradition of ‘Beating the Bounds’ will take place on Rogation Sunday 13th May starting at 9am from Adel Stables, Back Church Lane. This is a circular walk of 15 miles, ending back at about 4.30pm at Adel Stables for tea.

We take the Meanwood Valley Trail from Stairfoot Lane to the Ring Road, passing Adel Seven Arches. Then we follow  mainly boundary footpaths to Paul’s Pond and on to Golden Acre. We expect to be at the café at 12 noon. The next section via Bank Top gives great views across Wharfedale and of the Red Kites around Eccup Reservoir.

Walkers (and dogs) are welcome to join in for part or all of the walk. Some walkers join us at 12 noon at the café, others walk with us for part of the 1st section through the bluebell woods. We split into two groups at Golden Acre. You can have a light lunch at the café or bring a picnic lunch to eat in the park with Val – or go ahead to the New Inn for Sunday lunch. We all hope to meet up again later…  For a map & details contact Val Crompton  225 9142.
