Adel Players will take to the stage for a new production of ‘Ghosts’ later this month under improved lighting, and with other upgraded facilities too.
The dramatic society, who have been performing at the Memorial Hall in Adel in north Leeds for over 60 years, have completed work on their theatre space in good time as they prepare to welcome audiences for Henrik Ibsen’s classic play.
Funds totaling £14,000 were raised for the project by way of a grant from Leeds City Council Area Committee Well-being Fund and also an appeal to patrons.
As a result, Adel Players have been able to install additional lighting for use in all productions, new sound equipment and an induction loop to help the hard of hearing. In addition, the stage area has been fully refurbished to enable a system for sets and flats. A recent survey of audience members showed that 85% of respondents agreed strongly that the new facilities will enable Adel Players to make an enhanced contribution to the cultural life of the locality.
Theatregoers can come and see for themselves when ‘Ghosts’ is performed at the Adel War Memorial Hall, LS16 8DE, from Wednesday 24 to Saturday 27 April (7.30pm).
Ibsen’s masterpiece attacking the rigid social conventions of the time is the third and final play in Adel Players’ 2012-13 season. Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Bedroom Farce’ sold out its four-night run in January, while the October production of Arthur Miller’s ‘All My Sons’ was described as “superb” by amateur theatre magazine Sardines.
Tickets for ‘Ghosts’ cost £7 and bookings can be made on (0113) 275 5585, or via the website at www.adel-players.org.uk.
