The three steps that pose a ‘health and safety’ risk to Leeds bin men

Brown Bin CollectionBin men have refused to collect a disabled pensioner’s rubbish for “health and safety” reasons – because it stands at the top of three steps.

Former delivery man Wilson Burdis, 67, from Nepshaw Lane in Morley, says his brown bin – which carries garden waste – has not been emptied for eight weeks.

Mr Burdis, who suffers from a severe lung complaint, said: “They’re telling me they’re not allowed to take it down the three steps to the street for health and safety reasons. I just think it’s ridiculous.

“I used to have to carry fridges, washing machines and all sorts up and down steps. If I’d ever have made that kind of excuse I’d have been laughed at.”
