Due to a missed waste and recycle collection yesterday in the area of Adel Woods, Wayland Approach and Wayland Croft Estates.
Your association took this matter up with the Service Team Manger and was advised due to weather conditions in other areas they were unable to make a collection. It is planned that the collection will either be today or tomorrow (8th) at the latest.
We trust this keeps you up to date with this matter.
Please share this information with your friends on Facebook and help keep everyone in your local area informed of what is happening.
We refer to a previous post in respect of the above and welcome the good news received from Cllr Barry Anderson by the Senior Supervisor, (Passenger Assistants & School Crossing Patrol), Passenger Transport, Westland Road Depot who has advised him as follows:
“As agreed, we placed a temporary School Crossing warden on Sir George Martin Drive at Adel Primary School, for four weeks, in order that we monitor the traffic flow and the number of pedestrians crossing.
This trial period had now ended and we have analysed the statistics and I can confirm that the numbers of both pedestrians and traffic warrant the need for a warden. Thus we are able to establish a permanent site, which will be fully funded by the authority.
We are in the process of advertising for a number of vacancies and we will include the site at Adel in this recruitment process.
For your information, I have attached a flyer which we will distribute at the school and in the immediate area during the recruitment process, but if you or the school are aware of any interested parents could you please let them know the situation and give them my details.”
“We would have liked more safety measures in place such as 20 mph limit near the two schools, speed bumps and a pedestrian crossing but would seem the council have taken everything into consideration and had a change of heart to employ a School Crossing Warden. However, we feel it does not resolve the issue of traffic on the stretch of the road and shall be considering campaigning for additional measures to be put in place.”
In the meantime, if you need any further information please do not hesitate to contact Cllr Barry Anderson directly.
We refer to previous correspondence and would advise that we now received a reply from the Highways Department in respect of the speed checks that they have carried out both on Long causeway near Adel St. John’s School and on Sir George Martin Drive.
The 85%ile referred to below means the maximum speed that 85 % of the vehicles were doing i.e. 15% of drivers were exceeding 29.2mph on Long Causeway and 15% of drivers were exceeding 30.1mph on Sir George Martin Drive
The study was carried out throughout the day, not just at peak periods hence the recorded volumes of traffic included in the table.
The results of the speed surveys on Long Causeway and Sir George Martin Drive were made available this morning. The survey tubes were down from the 14 to 22 September inclusive.
A summary is as below:
Location
Date
Mean Speed
85%ile Speed
Weekday two-way volume
Long Causeway
September 2011
22mph
29.2mph

The Senior Engineer, highways have included results from a September 2001 survey done on Sir George Martin Drive near Tile Lane for comparison. It is apparent that the volume of traffic has remained static, but traffic speeds have reduced by a significant factor.
Should you wish to make any comments please do so through our website or you may wish to contact Cllr Barry Anderson direct.
We have been asked by a local resident to circulate the following message for awareness.
“On Saturday 10 Sept, my husband went to Adel Wood Stores to buy a paper and he saw, whom he thought were gypsies, pulled up in a van and threw a bag of rubbish onto the pavement. When my husband approached them and told them to pick it, they responded by verbal abuse and swearing at him, leaving the rubbish on Sir George Martin Drive.”
Our advise is should anyone be involved in a similar sitiuation, the best thing that you can do is report the matter to the authorities.
We apologise for the delay in sending out this message which was caused by factors that are beyond our control.
