UNTAXED VEHICLES BEING CLAMPED‏

Car ClampCllr Barry Anderson passed on some important information he had received from a local resident who published the following information:

Be Aware of Clampers down your street!!!!

This morning (Tuesday 21 April ’15) in Smithy Lane, Cookridge, Leeds 16 there was a white transit van driven by a man with a woman passenger. The van has some sort of small camera device on the roof.  There is some small writing on the doors, but these details were not taken.

They were seen fitting a WHEEL CLAMP to a vehicle on that street.

When asked what they were doing, the woman said that they were clamping all vehicles without road tax.

It would appear that now vehicles do not have to display a current road tax that people are trying to avoid paying for it as there is no visual sign that they have in fact paid.

It appears that the Local Council are aware from DVLC records of which cars are not taxed etc, and they visit the address of the untaxed vehicle and put a wheel clamp on it. They also affix some sort of notice to the windscreen.

So, apart from having to pay for the wheel clamp to be removed, they will have to tax their vehicle before it is so removed. They might also have to pay a Fixed Penalty for having the untaxed vehicle on the road, plus other ancillary offences like no insurance and MOT.

Please be aware, and inform your friends of the above.

You might save someone a lot of money.”

As a result of this I received an email from another resident asking if this is correct and did the Council have these powers.

Cllr Barry Anderson took this up with the Chief Highways Officer and he has advised me as follows:

“We have made enquiries with our Parking Manager who advised the clamping would either be the DLVA or their contractors as they have statutory powers to clamp/remove untaxed vehicles. Occasionally, his team does clamp/remove persistent offenders with multiple tickets and no registered keeper which they have powers to do.

I hope this assists with your query.”

I trust this gives you the information you may need if you see this in your locality.

No decision on Leeds trolleybus for months

Watch: Leeds OAP road-menders roll out the fighting spirit

PotholesA GANG of feisty pensioners are rolling out the resilience – and a tonne of Tarmac – to repair their pothole ridden road themselves.

The six OAPs, who have an average age of 75, pledged to get the job done themselves as Leeds City Council highways bosses say they do not have to carry out repairs as it is an ‘unadopted’ road.

The neighbours from Crawshaw Gardens in Pudsey bought a tonne of Tarmac and some black tar sealant to maintain holes on their access. Armed with a heavy duty concrete garden roller, shovels, rakes and brushes they set to work yesterday.

David Horn, 77, who is married to Barbara, said: “We decided enough is enough. There has been much discussion with Leeds City Council over the years and although it is an unadopted road, we feel they could help us out.

Opponents ready for public inquiry on Leeds trolleybus scheme

NGT TrolleybusAn alliance of objectors will tomorrow begin a bid to stop Leeds’s trolleybus scheme in its tracks.

The public inquiry that will decide the fate of the £250m project gets under way at 10am at the Regus office building off Wellington Street in the city centre.

It will hear pro-trolleybus evidence from experts put forward by the scheme’s co-promoters, West Yorkshire passenger transport authority Metro and Leeds City Council.

But it will also hear from a wide range of opponents who believe the New Generation Transport (NGT) project is not the solution to Leeds’s traffic congestion problems. Objectors provisionally scheduled to appear include:

* Leeds bus operator First, which has claimed a fleet of state-of-the-art double deckers would deliver the same benefits as trolleybus at a fraction of the cost;

ADEL GETS A NEW BUS SHELTER

New Bus Shelter 033Many years of trying to obtain a bus shelter to be erected on Sir George Martin Drive off Adel Wood Estate to provide excellent exposure to local residents and vehicular traffic to give something to look at while waiting for the bus but unfortunately was turned down due to lack of space on the footpath and too near the communal grassed area.

We understand that our local Councillor recently put forward a request to Metro who then did a survey and agreed to erect the new bus shelter which has now been completed.

Listed below are some of the comments made by local residents:

“The shelter looks good and it gives undercover from the rain and the wind.”

“I can sit down and sunbathe while waiting for the bus.”

“I think the shelter is too small and should have been much bigger.”

“Found the shelter too small but it is better than nothing at all.”

In summary we feel that the bus shelter has made a vast improvement for all to benefit from the weather elements to all who have need to use the bus service.

We wish to thank our local Councillor Barry Anderson and Metro for their help and support in this matter for which we most appreciate.
