Weekly crime update [NOT PROTECTIVELY MARKED]

Please see below for the past seven days crime in Adel and Wharfedale Ward received from PC Karina Ingham;

There was a burglary at Holtdale Way, Holt Park where a resident found an Eastern European male in her kitchen, he had entered through an unlocked door. She challenged the male and he attempted to steal a mobile phone. The lady managed to pull her phone from the male and he made off. A name has been put forward for this suspect and this is being investigated. Please lock doors behind you as this man may still be in the area.

There was a burglary at East Causeway Vale, Adel on the 12th October, the suspects smashed a patio door and located keys for a performance vehicle inside the address. The vehicle was stolen but has now been located and recovered by Police in Bradford. This is under investigation.

There was a theft of metal from a garden on Moseley Wood Walk, Cookridge, a vehicle registration was obtained and this is being investigated.

There was a theft from a motor vehicle on the 12th October on Otley Road, Bramhope. The suspects forced a door lock to the car and stole a pedal cycle and a tomtom.

There was a burglary on Moseley Wood Green, Cookridge overnight 13-14th October where the suspects snapped the lock of a residential property and gained entry.

There was a burglary to an outbuilding on the 10th October on Otley Road, Adel.

There was an attempt burglary at a commercial premise on The Crescent, Adel between the 7-10th October, the lock was damaged but no entry gained.

There was a vehicle interference on Holtdale Garth between 7-8th October where a sliding door of a van was tampered with, no entry was gained.

There was a theft from motor vehicle on Farrar Lane between 7-8th October where a van window was smashed and tools were stolen.

There were two burglaries to business premises in Cookridge on the 8th October, Police attended an alarm activation at one and detained a suspect. He has been arrested and charged with several burglary offences and will be in Court later this month.

The Police Community Support Officers were out this week conducting crime reduction leaflet drops around the Ward, as the nights get darker please be aware of home security, lock doors and windows. There is traditionally an increase in crime in the run up to Christmas and our crime reduction officer is available to give any advice that anyone may need.

Please see below an alert for all to send out received today from PC Karina Ingham;

MAP SCAM – BEWARE!
On the 3rd October a resident attended at Bramhope Medical Centre in their vehicle. Before they got out of the car they were approached by a male who distracted them with a large paper map and spoke with broken English, asking for directions. Whilst the resident was distracted by this male her handbag was taken from the vehicle.

This distraction was used before in our area in Cookridge, residents were followed home from supermarkets after being watched using their chip and pin cards. Handbags were then stolen and the bank cards were used by the suspects who had seen the pin numbers whilst in the shop.

Please be vigilant and if approached do not speak to the person and lock your car door and protect your possessions.

Please report any incident to the Police on 101 or if an ongoing crime via 999.

An up and over garage door was forced open at an address on Mulberry Garth. No property was stolen.

A handbag and a laptop were stolen from the boot of a vehicle whilst parked in the Lawnswood Arms car park.

Good news for Adel this week, very low crime figures reported and no burglary dwellings.

A theft occurred on Kingsley Avenue of some building materials from the driveway. This happened in the morning on 28/03/14 between 10:00-10:10am. It is really important to not leave anything unattended even for a few minutes.

A criminal damage has been reported on Mulberry View where the fence and panels have been damaged.

On Saturday there was an attempted burglary on Gainsborough Drive. Suspects snapped the Europrofile lock barrel to gain entry to a property but were disturbed by an alarm before making off.

A timely reminder to have a look at your locks and see if they meet the requirement of your insurance company.

There was also a break in to a garage overnight from the 5th to the 6th March on Kingsley Drive. Suspects forced the door and searched the garage before making off empty handed.

There has been a recent increase in criminal damages around the Adel area with five being reported in the last week.

On Heathfield a brick was thrown against the window damaging the frame in the early hours of the morning.

New Adel Lane – a car was damaged and the paintwork scratched using an unknown implement.

Gainsborough Avenue – A brick was thrown through the rear window of a vehicle.

Adel Grange Mews – Garden furniture was damaged during the day.

A theft also occurred on Adel Lane where a coat and mobile phone were taken off a fence belonging to a gentleman was working there.
