Neighbourhood Police Update W/c 26th December 2011

May I first wish you all the best for a prosperous, happy and crime free New Year.

We have had an increase in burglaries to sheds and garages. It has come to notice today that burglars are identifying homes where bikes are present as those with bike racks on cars outside. I would urge anyone with a bike rack on their car to remove it ASAP. Often there can be a great deal of damage caused getting round the backs of your homes to break into your sheds and garages. There is also of course the upset and financial issues that go hand in hand with a burglary.

Please be aware, a new website that has been launched in December 2011
www.nhwo.co.uk (Neighbourhood Watch Online) is not supported by the Police and has no links to www.ourwatch.org.uk which does offer members the correct advice.

Neighbourhood Police Update W/c 5th December 2011

Crime
There have been 6 reports of burglary in the last week, these have occurred on Whinfield where a euro profile lock has been attacked with molegrips snapping the lock to gain entry. Kenworthy Gate where a brick has been used to smash a window to gain entry. Broomfield, again glass window smashed to gain entry however the alarm activates and the offenders make off empty handed. The Drive, glass window smashed to gain entry. Otley Road, an insecure garage is entered and then a rear window smashed on the house but no entry gained. A further insecure storage compound was entered on Otley Road which led to a flat roof, a window has then been prised to gain entry to some storage offices. There has been no vehicle crime.

ASB no incidents to report.

ALL AREAS
A Licensing Operation was carried out last week where a drugs dog was used
passively to detect illegal substances. Leeds City Council Licensing were also present. A number of premises across the area were unexpectedly visited. We are pleased to report that the majority of premises were all above board along with their customers, this is a superb result at this busy time of year to see that people are out enjoying themselves in a respectful manner.

Euro profile locks remain the main issue for our area, where the locks are
snapped by mole grips to gain entry. We would urge you all to take some
simple precautions as most families will be away from their home at some
point during the festive period. Leave a light on by using a timer, this
gives the impression that someone is in, use a low energy bulb as this is a
low cost option. Book a FREE security assessment through CASAC, they work with the police and are a non profit organisation dedicated to reducing
burglary in our area. They can fit and upgrade a range of security products
to your home in a short space of time, they do on occasion have funding
available for the most vulnerable victims,  they can be contacted on 0845
519 2122.

Neighbourhood Police Update W/c 21st & 28th November 2011

Crime
There have been no reports of burglary in the last week. There has been 1 report of vehicle crime which occurred on The Crescent where an insecure car had tools stolen. As it is now getting dark extremely early, please remember to utilise timer switches. Leaving lights on, the TV or even a radio, close the curtains and the use of outdoor lighting can be a great success at deterring prowling criminals. As Christmas is fast approaching we need to do everything possible and work together to prevent the rise in seasonal crime.

ASB no incidents to report.

Week Commencing 28th November

Scam from North Yorkshire
A male claiming to work for Lloyds Bank phoned a customer of the bank
stating he has a new debit card for the customer. The customer’s bank details were confirmed between the male and the customer over the phone. A male then went to the customer’s home address and exchanged the customer’s current card for a fake one. The male then used the customer’s current card to obtain money out of a cash point. Please do not pass your bank details over the phone. The bank would never ask you for your card details over the phone and they would never deliver it by a bank employee by hand.
